Directing Theatre - Life Under A Paper Moon
I'm pretty much a pushover for any good musical. I find the form fascinating because of the demand it places on the audience. In order for a musical to "work," to be successful, the audience has to agree that communication can take on most any form - including singing and dancing. If the audience can do that, and it's not a guarantee, anything is possible! Hairspray is a beautifully constructed musical, the songs are well-placed, the book is clever and quick, and the theme is universal. It is the kind of work I love to do - telling the story of US, of our nation and our centuries. I'm an American history geek, and when the planets align and I get to work on a play or musical that can bring our past to life, I'm in heaven.
